Forecast discussion: You probably could not ask for a better April day for Boston on Tuesday. After a few morning showers, we had bright sunshine, with temperatures reaching a high of 73 degrees in the capital city. It has not been this warm since late October.
However, the extremely warm temperatures will be coming to an end after tomorrow. A warm front to our north will slowly slip southward this evening. It will carry a round of showers into the Northeast U.S., and we will see some showers into dawn and the morning commute. But, the showers should come to and quickly, but we will only see limited sunshine during the afternoon.
As the warm front slips into Southern New England, our temperatures will drastically cool down. Also, more showers will enter the region, as it follows the frontal boundary on Thursday. As we approach Thursday night into Friday, a low pressure system moving into central Texas at the moment will move into the Mid-Atlantic region. This low will bring some heavier rain on Friday afternoon. We may see an inch to an inch and a half of rain by Friday night.
By early Saturday morning, the shower activity will come to an end, as high pressure slowly builds into the Great Lakes from Alberta, Canada. We will see dry weather with temperatures slowly climbing into the middle 50’s for the weekend. As we approach Monday, another low pressure system will move through the area, and will give us some showers by the afternoon. As we go into Tuesday, a second low will help create some stronger precipitation by the morning, before tapering to showers by the afternoon. The low will move offshore in time for Tuesday evening. Temperatures will increase into the middle 60’s by Tuesday.
