We were the first to report on Friday the interesting fact that Paul McCartney and the Rolling Stones are rehearsing near each other. Brian Ray, who on his @brianrayguitar Twitter account, sent out some sneak peeks of what the Stones were playing, sent us this comment on Friday on what he heard: “They were urgent and joyous, smiling away and chatting with me on the breaks. Great songs and unexpected treasures were played through the days in the California rehearsals.” Can you hear me rockin’? According to Paul “Wix” Wickens, who just got joined the club with his own Twitter account @wixwickens, he tweeted late Friday the band is getting a day off today. “A surprise day off tomorrow. We all need it, it’s hard work enjoying yourself playing music!” Thanks to Brian, by the way, for RT’ing our story.
RECORD STORE DAY: There are a couple of Beatle goodies on the shelves to celebrate Record Store Day today. One is the live version of “Maybe I’m Amazed” from the forthcoming “Wings Over America” reissue, which you can hear on Soundcloud. This live version of “Maybe I’m Amazed” was originally serviced as a radio-only promotional 12″ vinyl single back in 1976 and includes both stereo and mono versions. Also available is a set of three 7 inch vinyl Ringo Starr singles in an Apple Records box with a Record Store Day spindle. The singles are: “Photograph” b/w “Down And Out,” “It Don’t Come Easy” b/w “Early 1970” and “(It’s All Down to) Goodnight Vienna” b/w “Oo-Wee.”
UP AGAIN: Speaking of “Wings Over America,” didn’t order the “Wings Over America” deluxe box yet? Well, the price went up yet again. The deluxe edition is now $156.72, up from $140.57 shortly after it listed, which was a rise from the original price of $94 when it was originally listed. That’s a $62.72 difference. Ouch!
RADIO TIP: John Lennon author Jude Southerland Kessler (“Shoulda Been There”) will be interviewed today on “The ABC Radio Show with Rod Quinn” today (Saturday) at 1 p.m. ET about the history and back stories of the “Please Please Me” LP. You can listen LIVE here.
