It is time for another short fiction review and another review of a short work about a classic monster: vampires. There is nothing subtle about this book or what the reader will find inside so I pretty much knew what I was in for when I started reading “Arranged marriage to a vampire prince” by vampire_queen.
Schuyler is a typical 16 year old girl. Well, almost typical, at least. She feels that she is the cause of her mother’s sadness and she still mourns the death of her father. She is tired of her life and of the pain that she feels that she causes until the night when all of that will change. She is summoned from her room to learn that she is being given to Damien to be his wife in a deal that her parents had made a decade before in order to get out of money problems.
But there is more to it than that. Damien is not an ordinary boy but rather he is a vampire. He is even not only an ordinary vampire. He is a vampire prince and his family is gearing up for a war against the other vampire families and Schuyler has been chosen to be the matriarch of the family in the event that Damien’s parents should fail. Schuyler attempts to kill herself in order to end her mother’s pain and Damien’s entrapment in a marriage that he surely cannot want. When the suicide attempt fails, she learns that not only is she destined to be Damien’s wife since birth but that they are blood mates and are drawn to each other by a power stronger than anything that she could ever hope to resist.
“Arranged marriage to a vampire prince” is more of a pseudo-erotica story more than a vampire tale. While Damien and his family are vampires, the story is centered on the sexual tension that is overwhelming Schuyler and Damien and drawing them toward a physical union and the procreation of the family. The story is a more of a sequence of attraction that exists between blood mates that progresses to the point until they cannot control themselves around each other and are in physical pain when apart that eventually leads to a quick marriage. The story did not really work to me. I am not a fan of erotica and this was more of a work of erotica without an explicit payoff of the tension that is built in the story. This story is sure to appeal to some but it just was not very interesting to me.
