If you’re longing for one last day on the slopes at Lake Tahoe, better not wait. Alpine Meadows ski resort is open this weekend, but closes on Sunday, April 28.
Alpine is the last Lake Tahoe ski resort to close for the 2012-13 season.
Shutting down their lifts last Sunday were Squaw Valley, Mt. Rose and Kirkwood ski resort. Alpine Meadows has remained open the last two weekends after suspending weekday skiing on April 14.
Squaw had originally scheduled an April 28 closing, which would have made it the last Lake Tahoe ski resort to halt operations on a daily basis.
“The 2012-13 winter season was a really successful season as a whole at both Squaw and Alpine,” said Amelia Richmond, a spokesperson for both Squaw and Alpine. “While we didn’t have as many powder days as usual, our improved snowmaking systems and January’s cold temperatures kept a really solid snow surface throughout the season and kept us skiing into spring.”
Mammoth Mountain open through Memorial Day
The only California ski resort that will remain open after this weekend is Mammoth Mountain. Unlike the Lake Tahoe ski resorts, skiing and snowboarding will continue into May this season at Mammoth Mountain.
The large California ski resort, which is located in Eastern California, along the east side of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, will remain open this season at least through Memorial Day weekend, tentatively closing on May 27.
To date, Mammoth has received 305 inches of snow. The resort added 6-10 inches of fresh snow earlier this week, increasing the current base depth to 5-14 feet from Main Lodge to the Summit.
Mammoth has said it will provide skiers and snowboarders with access to top-to-bottom terrain.
“It’s been a great year for Mammoth and we recently announced that we will remain open through Memorial Day and longer if possible,” said Mammoth spokesperson Deena Betcher. “Currently the conditions are great, with a mix of both spring and powder on the mountain.”
