The young woman in the lounge at exhale spa at Loews Hollywood Hotel asked what treatment I was having. When I told her a couples massage, she sighed, “I wish I could get my husband to come with me for one.” What a shame. He doesn’t know what he’s missing, especially with therapists such as Tiara and Tyler on duty.
The team of chiropractic-trained massage therapists, really know their way around the muscles of the body. Their technique is about as good as it gets (and this from a pair of spa junkies who have been pampered and pummeled at facilities throughout the world on land and at sea.
The $130 session includes stretching, acupressure, pressure points and some Swedish-style movements here and there. The result is phenomenal. You feel energized but blissed out, ecstatic yet limp all over, in a good way.
Exhale spa is a relative newcomer to Loews which replaced the former Spa Luce. In fact Loews is also a newish edition to tinsel town’s hotel scene, having taken over the Renaissance about year ago. They are a winning combination. The hotel vibrates with a young vibe. The urban-style spa emits a relaxed mood with aromatic scents filling the air, candles and a soothing décor.
Part of a nationwide chain of spas, it’s obvious that exhale knows their stuff. The menu of services is vast and innovative with head-to-toe offerings that include several different facial and body treatments, hair, nails, brow and lash shaping, body waxing and special ‘transformational’ packages. Prices are pretty standard for the industry with facials running from $155 to $225, massages $130 to $290, mani/pedis for $30 and $55 (gels are $20 extra) and packaging going from $300 to $700.
If you can get your guy to join in, the special overnight couples Fusion massage package is worth booking. It includes a romantic overnight in a junior suite, the full rub at exhale spa and even a book on hiking Los Angeles. While you’re there you can also enjoy the rooftop pool and deck, workout in the fully-equipped fitness center, have happy hour in the lobby bar and walk the few steps to the Hollywood and Highland Center for some power shopping, dining or drinking.
Adjacent to the spa is a very well used fitness center. Just outside the door is the rooftop pool, which yesterday was well occupied by hotel guests swimming and sunning.
