There appears to be no end in sight for Amazon’s low prices on its tablets. According to a March 20 TechCrunch report, there are rumors that Amazon is producing a $99 Kindle Fire 7″ tablet that will be ready to ship by the end of the year.
If this new rumor is true, then Amazon’s Kindle Fire is in prime position to compete with Android’s low cost tablets. Amazon is setting itself to be a key player in the tablet market after recent price cuts on its Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ devices.
Amazon is just doing what experts predict will happen in the market. Jitesh Ubrani, a research analyst for IDC’s Tablet Tracker recently stated that “One in every two tablets shipped this quarter was below 8 inches in screen size. And in terms of shipments, we expect smaller tablets to continue growing in 2013 and beyond.”
According to Ubrani, “Vendors are moving quickly to compete in this space as consumers realize that these small devices are often more ideal than larger tablets for their daily consumption habits.”
TechCrunch reports that the $99 Kindle Fire HD will “also still sport a TI processor like the rest of the lineup, and will have a 1280×800 resolution.”
